It’s Sunday morning after a weekend of partying, but you’re not quite ready to finish yet. So what do you do? What if I told you there’s a place where you can eat, drink, dance and sing along to a live band all day, every day! Well, there is, and it’s called The Piano Works Farringdon.
The Piano Works is an all-day restaurant, bar and party venue located in a Victorian listed warehouse in Farringdon. It calls itself London’s only non-stop music venue, with a live band performing 7 days a week. Whether it’s 1am on Friday night, or 4pm on Sunday afternoon, there’s guaranteed to be a party in full swing.
Last Sunday I treated myself to a boozy brunch at The Piano Works to see what all the commotion is about…
The venue is set out in one large room, with long group tables surrounding the stage, and tables for smaller groups set slightly behind. The central position of the stage emphasises the importance of the music, as well as creating a fun, communal atmosphere. The exposed brickwork, dim lights and loud music also contribute to the party-like atmosphere, no matter the time of day.
On our visit, the band consisted of two pianists, 2 guitarists, a drummer and trumpeter, with vocals shared within the group. Apparently, the band members change each day, and sometimes they are nothing more than a group of strangers coming together to play. If this is true, then I’m even more amazed at the high quality of the music, especially the beautiful vocals by both pianists!
What makes Piano Works even more unique is that all of the music is chosen by the audience. Pens and napkins are supplied at each table so that guests can write down their requests and give it to their waiter to pass onto the band. The fact that the band didn’t turn down a request and were willing to learn songs on the spot amazed me even further. They played everything from Otis Redding to Amy Winehouse to The Killers to Camila Cabello.
On the weekends, boozy brunch is served in 2 sittings. 12-2pm and 2-4pm. Their selection of classic (and some not so classic) brunch dishes can be washed down with bottomless prosecco for £15 or unlimited bloody marys for £20. Just imagine the damage you can do in 2 hours!
With Eggs Benedict and Marmite being two of my favourite breakfast foods, I knew that I had to try the ‘Love Me or Hate Me Eggs Benedict’ which contained Marmite hollandaise sauce. A surprising twist on the traditional dish that I could definitely get used to.
After quickly demolishing my food I noticed another small menu titled ‘Brunch Dessert’, featuring the likes of fruity pancakes and gingerbread cheesecake. The pancakes were a light and delicious way to top off an already great brunch.
The Piano Works is definitely the perfect place for music lovers and large groups to enjoy a fun and interactive boozy bunch. Even at 2pm on a Sunday when we visited, people were dancing and singing along to their requested songs being played by the extremely talented live band. The loud music does make it difficult if you’re looking for something a little more intimate for a quiet conversation – but there’s plenty of other places in London if that’s what you’re after.
