If you would have asked me a week ago how I was planning on spending my Tuesday night, I would have told you that I’d be lying on the sofa with a cuppa watching the Great British Bake Off.

As it turns out, my night took a very different turn when I ended up sitting around a candlelit table eating soup and biscuits with The Daughters of Divine Charity (an order of Roman Catholic religious sisters) at Shoreditch based pop-up NUNdos (yes, you read the name right – puntastic!).

Open from Tuesday 17th to Thursday 19th at the White Rabit Studio, NUNdos is the Worlds first nun-powered eatery.

Guests are served a hearty chicken or lentil soup and tasty cookies (all free of charge) by the nuns in exchange for conversation and self-reflection.

Diners are encouraged to put away their phones and take part in soul-searching activities, such as a challenge which allows you to think about where your current priorities lie and why. This allows guests to reflect on their lives whilst chatting with the nuns and other people around the table.

So what is the reason for all of this? NUNdos’ 3 day London stint comes in the run-up to the launch of new Channel 5 series ‘Bad Habits, Holy Orders’, a show which sees 5 selfie-obsessed millennials live in a working convent with the sisters for 4 weeks. The show breaks new ground as it is the first time that the Daughters of Divine Charity have allowed filming.

The pop-up is a unique opportunity for Londoners to meet the sisters and the girls from the show, and learn more about their experience swapping hedonism for a life of humility. It was truly heartwarming to see the close relationships formed between the girls and the nuns, as well as hearing firsthand their (mainly) positive thoughts on the experience. A lovely and welcoming group of ladies who made my evening one to remember! I’m looking forward to watching the show when it starts on Thursday night.
