My stay at The Resident Soho was kindly gifted, however, all opinions are entirely my own.
Quietly tucked away at the end of Carlisle Street, shouting distance from Soho Square and a 2-minute walk from Oxford Street, The Resident Soho is a beautiful 78-room boutique hotel right in the heart of one of central London’s coolest neighbourhoods.
Otherwise pretty well camouflaged into the surrounding shops and offices, The Resident can be found by spotting the unusual winged sculpture above the hotel entrance.
Designed by Hew Locke, the sculpture is of Selene, the Greek goddess of the moon and magic, so was appropriately commissioned by the hotel to signify ‘sleep’ (find out more about the sculpture here).
For me, the hotel’s lobby was one of the highlights of the entire place, with such beautiful and stylish interior design that I might just use it for inspiration when I get my own home.
Two plush green velvet sofas sit opposite black and white armchairs, with floral arrangements which are often changed to suit the season and a few statement lamps which give the whole room a bright yet cosy atmosphere.
You could certainly nestle up on one of the comfy armchairs with a book while waiting to check-in (if you happen to arrive early) or even just while enjoying your morning coffee before heading out to explore the city.
The lobby also makes a great backdrop for some pretty Instagram pictures for fellow photo addicts like myself (absolutely no judgement here!).
The rooms themselves are spacious given the central location of the hotel, with enough room for a king-sized bed, sofa, armchair and a desk. Plus, who doesn’t love a four-poster bed!?
The internet-enabled TV above the bed was another nice addition for cosying up and watching Netflix with a glass of wine before heading to bed.
Space in the room is well utilised, with both a storage area and a mini-kitchen hidden away behind wardrobe doors on one wall.
Given that the hotel doesn’t have its own restaurant or breakfast included, having the mini-kitchen is a bonus if you’re someone who can’t head out for the day without your morning coffee and breakfast.
The mini-kitchen has a kettle and coffee machine with pods included, as well as a fridge, microwave and all the utensils you might need for breakfast or a simple meal.
The Resident Soho also offers the option to pre-order groceries which are unpacked in your room before you check-in. We ordered fresh juice, yogurt, fruit, pastries, cured meats and cheese so we could recreate the hotel-buffet breakfast experience from our room.
With the current COVID situation, this is a great offering for those who want to have a luxury staycation in London but aren’t as confident heading out to busy shops and restaurants yet.
The Resident in general felt very COVID safe, with masks worn in all communal areas, proper cleaning protocols and even a protective seal on the room door as you enter to show that no one else has entered since the professional cleaning took place.
While the hotel itself is clean, spacious and beautifully decorated, for me, the number one reason to choose The Resident Soho has to be its amazing location. As well as being walking distance from the shopping utopia that is Oxford Street, it’s also a quick and easy walk to many of the best restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs in Soho.
Here are some of my favourite spots which are within a few minutes walk of The Resident Soho:
- Crème London – huge gooey cookies (some of the best in London) and soft-serve ice cream.
- The Breakfast Club – delicious breakfast and brunches, including a great chicken and waffle dish.
- Inamo – a cool yet unusual Asian-fusion restaurant with innovative interactive tables.
- Zelman Meats – does a mean steak!
- Tommi’s Burger Joint – tasty Icelandic burgers with a DIY sauce and toppings bar.
- 100 Wardour Street – super swanky and stylish restaurant, bar and lounge in an iconic location.
- Simmons Bar Soho – fun cocktail bar with teapot cocktails and daily happy hour.
