‘Tis the season of overindulgence.
The season for eating until you’re ready to pop and drinking every day for a month straight and not feeling bad about it whatsoever.
The season where ‘it’s Christmas’ is a valid excuse to drink champagne on a Monday afternoon.
And when you live in a city as exciting as London during the holidays, there’s absolutely no reason not to make the most of all of the amazing festive food and drink on offer over the entire festive season.
One of my favourite things to do in London at Christmas is get glammed up and head out for a festive afternoon tea with my girlfriends at one of London’s beautiful hotels. Especially when I can book a great deal that doesn’t consume too much of my Christmas present spending money through Bookatable.
This year we went for bottomless afternoon tea at the Petrichor restaurant at The Cavendish London.
The Cavendish is a luxurious 4* hotel in St James in the heart of the prestigious Mayfair.
The hotel sits in a prime Christmas shopping location amongst the elegant gentleman’s outfitters of Jermyn Street while being just seconds away from the iconic Fortnum & Mason and a short walk from the West End and Regent Street.
What could be a better way to break up a busy afternoon of Christmas shopping than a festive afternoon tea?
From the moment we sat down at our quaint window table in the Petrichor, overlooking the beautiful Christmas lights that illuminated the street below, our glasses were filled with champagne and the menu of warming Newby loose-leaf teas was explained.
It’s safe to say that we were too preoccupied with the champagne to try more than one cup of tea. However, the offering was impressive and I’d definitely try a few different flavours if I were to return.
To eat, we were presented with a plate of finger sandwiches, which included classics such as English cucumber, cream cheese and chives, as well as more festive fillings such as turkey and cranberry jam on onion bread (my favourite!).
This was followed by a beautiful array of freshly baked orange and cinnamon scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam, winter-spiced chocolate brownies, mini mince pies, orange marmalade and gingerbread cheesecake, Christmas spiced fruitcake and red berry cream tarts.
As well as the festive flavours, charming little touches such as the chocolate Merry Christmas and icing snowmen on top of the cheesecakes gave the whole afternoon tea even more of a Christmassy feel.
Bottomless afternoon tea in London is a lovely way to spend time with friends and loved ones during the festive season. Plus, it’s Christmas so no one will judge you for knocking back those 5 glasses of champagne at 3 in the afternoon!
Bottomless afternoon tea at Petrichor at The Cavendish London is just £42.50 per person through this great deal on Bookatable.
