Yen Burger is London’s newest Asian-inspired burger joint located in Southwark Street in Borough. Making it’s UK debut in November 2018, owner Yen Nguyen has taken inspiration from both her mothers Asian home cooking and western restaurant chains to bring a distinctively eastern influence to a British classic.

Meat lovers should definitely try the store’s flagship dish the ‘Yen Burger’ which includes a 100% wagyu beef patty, fresh pickles, smoked turkey bacon, cheese and shiso leaf.

Another delicious option is ‘The Finest Chick’ which combines coconut panko chicken breast and homemade slaw with the reviving shiso leaf and a zingy mango sauce.

The restaurant also has a great vegetarian and vegan offering, such as the ‘Tofu Burger’ with tofu, aubergine, lettuce and garnished with coriander. Plus, all burgers can be made ‘Californian style’ with lettuce rather than a bun.

Yen Burger has a whole offering of tasty sides, from chips and sweet potato fries to chicken or veggie gyozas and freshly steamed edamame beans.

My favourite side dish without a doubt was the halloumi with mango sauce. As a self-proclaimed halloumi connoisseur, I would happily say this one of the best halloumi dishes I have had in London for a long time!

Yen Burger also stands out for its extensive Asian-influenced cocktail offering served at the beautiful cherry-blossom bar on the lower ground floor.

The cocktail menu includes signatures such as the Foreign Mint which fuses Jinzu Gin, sake, mint and basil, whilst the Long Night combines whisky, rum, Cointreau, vodka and ginger ale. A great way to start or continue a night out in lively Borough.

There is also a good wine and prosecco offering, with bottles for as little as £25.

Final Verdict: Should you visit Yen Burger?

Yen Burger is a cosy and beautifully decorated little restaurant in a lively part of London, with delicious freshly made, Asian-inspired burgers and lots of tasty sides to choose from (try the halloumi!). The portions are large and will certainly fill you up, while the prices are incredibly affordable for the fantastic and unique flavours on offer.

Grab a few friends and find a table downstairs by the flower-blossom bar for an evening of flavoursome comfort food and a few signature cocktails.
