Over the last several years, brunch has become somewhat of an institution in London.

Every day, new cafes, coffee shops and brunch spots pop up across the capital, making narrowing down the best brunch in London a pretty difficult task for even the most dedicated brunch lovers like myself.

So instead, I decided to take my search for London’s best brunch one step further by singling out one of my favourite brunch dishes; the mighty avocado on toast.

And while there are still copious numbers of fantastic spots serving delicious avocado toast in London, I’ve at least managed to narrow it down to 7 of the absolute best…

The best avocado toast in London:

Daisy Green Collection

Where? Marylebone, Paddington, Soho, Victoria, Regent Street, Barbican, City & Southbank.

If there’s one thing Aussies know how to do right, it’s a great brunch. In fact, the best avocado dishes I’ve ever eaten have been in Australia. So it’s no wonder that when I started my search for London’s best avocado toast I headed straight to the capital’s top chain of Aussie cafes; Daisy Green Collection.

Daisy Green, which started as a humble food truck, now has 12 stylish London restaurants and cafes located all across the city, each with a completely different atmosphere and their own unique offering.

But the one thing that all of the Daisy Green venues have in common is their famous brunch menu, and in particular, one of the best avocado toast dishes in London made with smashed avocado, Labneh cheese and Aleppo chili on cold fermented activated charcoal sourdough bread. Perfection!

In true Aussie style, plenty of their other dishes come with avocado too, including the sweetcorn fritters with smashed avo, poached egg and feta, and the salmon royale with smoked salmon, avocado, poached eggs and lemon hollandaise. Daisy Green really is an avo lovers dream come true.

Avo Bar

Where? Covent Garden.

With a name like that, how could it not feature on a list of London’s best avocado toast?

Centrally located in Covent Garden, the Avo Bar prides itself on ‘bringing a fresh new vibe to healthy eating with our creative dishes inspired by the king of superfood — the mighty Avo!’.

The all-day superfood restaurant serves a whole variety of delicious health-conscious dishes featuring avocado, from simple avocado salads and poké bowls to more inventive dishes including a veggie burger with an avocado bun and even a chocolate avocado brownie.

And when it comes to their avocado toast, you’re absolutely spoilt for choice. Their signature dish of smashed chilli avocado on sweet potato ‘toast’ with coconut labneh is a must-try, while their ultimate avocado toast comes with a poached egg and side of avo lime jam on sourdough bread. They also offer some more unusual dishes such as crushed avo furikake and beetroot hummus toast with avocado.

Urban Pantry

Where? Chiswick.

Started by Kate Frobisher, who spent time in both Australia and New Zealand before coming back to London to open her own cafe, the Urban Pantry has won numerous awards for its fantastic breakfasts and brunch, including the winner of the 2019 National Breakfast Awards and runner-up in ‘Best Brunch Place in London’ at the TimeOut Awards.

Despite being a little out of the city center, a trip to Urban Pantry in West London is well worth the visit. Their flavourful and filling smashed avocado toast sits on sourdough bread and is smothered in toppings including poached egg, dukkah (nuts & seeds), halloumi, and feta, while a vegan option is also available with beetroot, spinach and tomatoes.

Urban Patry’s American-style pancakes and banana bread with pecans are both definitely worth a try too. If you’re going to head out to Chiswick you might as well make it a two-course brunch right!?

The Good Life Eatery

Where? Notting Hill, Chelsea, Marylebone, Belgravia & St John’s Wood.

A cool, calm and super chilled Californian style cafe, The Good Life Eatery is one of my favourite brunch spots in London for a very good reason; its BYO (build your own) avocado toast.

Start with your choice of whole grain, charcoal sourdough or gluten-free bread, add the avocado then take your pick from a whole range of extra toppings, including chilli, feta cheese, poached eggs, teriyaki salmon, jerk chicken and more. Avo toast with your own unique twist.

Caravan

Where? Kings Cross, Exmouth Market, City, Bankside & Fitzrovia.

While best known for its freshly roasted coffee from their very own roastery, Kiwi-owned Caravan’s five restaurants also serve up one of the most flavorsome avocado on toast in London.

Their unique smashed avocado comes accompanied by lemon, pumpkin seeds, chilli, sprouts (no, not the brussel type) and cheese on sourdough toast with the option of adding a poached egg on top.

Brother Marcus

Where? Spitalfields, Angel & Balham.

Brother Marcus is a small chain of Eastern Mediterranean restaurants which have become known in London for their creative brunch menu.

The restaurant’s take on avocado toast comes with poached eggs, rainbow chard and drizzled in harissa oil, with the optional additions of spicy Middle-Eastern sausage and halloumi. One of London’s best avocado brunches for those who like their breakfast with a bit of an extra kick!

Granger and Co.

Where? Chelsea, Clerkenwell, Kings Cross & Notting Hill.

You’ll probably have noticed by now that the running theme here is that many of the best brunch spots in London are run by our friends from down under, and Granger and Co. is no exception.

Owned by renowned Australian restaurateur and food writer Bill Granger, Granger and Co. have a great Aussie-inspired brunch menu that features a healthy dose of the green stuff.

The restaurants avocado toast on St John’s toasted rye with lime and coriander is simple, tasty and everything you could possibly need to satisfy your avocado toast cravings. Or for something a little more extravagant, try the fresh Aussie jasmine tea hot smoked salmon with poached eggs, greens, furikake, avocado and cherry tomatoes.
